Have you heard of MiniSAP but never had the chance to look into it? So I’ve decided to include a straightforward post on MiniSAP. MiniSAP is a full-fledged Basis SAP system without the SAP application modules (HR, FI, CO, MM, SD, CRM, etc.). MiniSAP contains only the basis core application of SAP, without any of the modules. This way, MiniSAP is a downscaled version of SAP 4.6D and it is aimed to those learning ABAP. MiniSAP can be installed on a normal, stand-alone PC. MSDE is used as the database server, and it is installed during the MiniSAP installation program. It has every Basis function of a standard SAP-R/3 system (ABAP/4 Development Workbench, Data Transfer Workbench, Computer Center Management System – CCMS, etc.) and is a very good way to to get started and trained in ABAP/4 programming language.
Since MiniSAP has all the standard SAP development tools such as the development workbench (transaction code SE80), users are able to develop and test new custom functionalities including reports, transactions, Business Server Pages (BSP) and ABAP Objects on your home PC. It has Full ABAP Stack functionality of mySAPTechnology SAP Server, GUI and SAPDB database.
The minimum hardware and software requirements are:
- Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0, Service Pack 4 or higher;
- Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher;
- At least 128 MB RAM;
- At least 256 MB paging file;
- At least 2.2 GB disk space (60 MB DB software, 1.9 GB SAP data, 100 MB SAP Gui + temporary free space for the installation);
- The file C:\Winnt\system32\drivers\etc\services must not contain an entry for port 3600 (a possible entry can be excluded by using the symbol ‘#’);
- Network (TCP/IP – Protocol) must be available.
Installation
To install and use the system, users must be logged on the local PC as an administrator. The whole installation takes about an hour, depending on the system performance.
The Mini SAP Basis System is delivered on 2 CDs. The KERNEL CD contains all the Kernel files and the Frontend (SAPGUI). The DATA CD contains the compressed contents of the SAP database. The administrator must install the components of the SAP System in two steps. First, the application server and the database system including the database data. Then, the Frontend (SAPGUI). The SAPGUI only needs to be installed in case it isn’t already installed in the PC.
The installation is pretty much self-explanatory. When the KERNEL CD is inserted, an HTML file is automatically opened that displays a summary of the installation guide and references to additional information. If this doesn’t happen, open file :\mini.htm in the root directory on the CD.
Installing Microsoft SQL Server 2000 During the installation of Mini SAP Basis System a runtime version of SQL Server will be installed.
